Bio

Robin Naughton, Ph.D. is Deputy Chief Librarian, and Assistant Professor, Web and Digital Services Librarian for the Queens College Library (QCL), CUNY. She is also Coordinator of User Experience (UX) and is responsible for the library website, systems, and digital services.
Dr. Naughton is an experienced user-centered researcher, technologist, digital librarian, and educator with over 20 years of experience designing, developing, and managing interactive products throughout all phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and across multiple platforms (web, mobile, tablet, interactive whiteboard, etc.). Her research focuses on human-computer interaction (HCI) and mental models, specifically how to design interactive systems that are useful, easy to use, and enjoyable.
Dr. Naughton has extensive experience in designing and developing interactive educational products. Prior to her current position, she ran the digital program for the New York Academy of Medicine Library, where she built a digital lab to digitize rare books and manuscripts and developed the Digital Collections and Exhibits website to share digitized collections. Dr. Naughton was also a digital consultant in educational technology and worked with LearningExpress, an EBSCO company, Oxford University Press, English Language Teaching, and Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions. She managed interactive educational products (web & mobile), online courses created for public and state libraries, and the transition of print to eBooks and interactive whiteboard products for students and teachers learning and teaching English.
Dr. Naughton holds a Ph.D. in Information Science from Drexel’s College of Computing and Informatics. Her MA and BFA degrees are in English from Brooklyn College, CUNY.

2024 – 2025: CETLL Faculty Fellow Program on Generative AI in the Classroom
Queens College’s CETLL (Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership) Faculty Fellow Program on Generative AI in the Classroom (2024-2025 academic year) brought together faculty from multiple disciplines to critically engage with Generative AI as it relates to the classroom and teaching.
2024 – 2025: ACRL/NY Mentor
Greater New York Metropolitan Chapter of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL/NY). Mentored a librarian at the beginning of librarianship career.
2023: CUNY Council of Chief Librarians Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force Mentoring Initiative
The mentoring program provided historically underrepresented library faculty and staff with mentoring towards library leadership positions.
2022: Faculty Fellowship Publication Program (FFPP)
The Faculty Fellowship Publication Program provided time and help with writing projects towards tenure for untenured CUNY faculty.

2010: Computer-Human Interaction Mentoring Workshop (CHIMe) Scholarship
The CHIMe Scholarship (~$1200) covered travel and accommodations for CHIMe workshop, and registration at the CHI 2010 Conference in Atlanta, GA.
2008 – 2011: Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Fellowship (Institute of Museum & Library Services)
The IMLS Fellowship covers tuition, living expenses in the form of a stipend and research-related conference travel while pursuing a PhD in Information Studies at Drexel University College of Information Science and Technology.
